This guy’s personal library is like that of some renaissance prince, except with state of the art 21st century technology. He must have made some serious money! [hat tip to kottke.org]

So, I need some advice from all you tech-savvy law librarians out there! I’m (finally) buying a laptop, and wondered if anyone had any advice? I’m looking to spend around £500, and need a machine to do standard stuff (word processing, gaming, some light programming, multimedia). I was thinking about this Toshiba running Vista, although I’m not averse to buying a low-end Mac.
Thoughts appreciated!

As reported on the Sky News site, Harriet Harmans blog has been hacked, and a post announcing her resignation from the Labour party and defection to the Conservatives has appeared…
I took a screenshot for the entertainment value before it disappears!

Slideshare, the presentation sharing site, is unavailable and apparently under attack by Chinese hackers. See: Slideshare blog and TechCrunch coverage. There is a question about who is behind this and why this would be happening in light of the upcoming Olympics in Beijing. Thanks to Slideshare team member Arun in New Delhi who updated me via Twitter.

American Bar Association’s 2008 Legal Technology Survey Report is due out in May. I’m wishing at least the trend reports from 2007 were available for free.

Has anyone else been having problems with their web filters blocking this site intermittently? I’ve had to ask someone in our IT Dept to make sure this site wasn’t on the block list for SurfControl / make it accessible. Both he and I were able to access it on and off, sometimes getting an access denied screen. Hopefully he’s got it sorted now.
It’s bizarre that it was intermittent too…has someone been posting dodgy stuff? ;-)

A friend sent me this post yesterday, comparing some of the social technologies of the ’90s with those of today.
And on old vs new technology, how about 1 GB then and now?

One of the reasons I’ve not tried sending ransom letters….best to stick with the old fashioned way of cutting out bits from newspapers!
Possible breach of right to privacy by printers
I wonder if there have ever been any cases where the originator of printed material was able to be traced by their yellow-dotted paper?

Question: is there no social networking tools trend for law firms? I just searched ILTA positions for blog, wiki, podcast, Web 2.0, social media, social networking and found only ONE position mentioning these things for tech folks. What gives?
