Government are consulting on whether UK should opt-in to ‘Rome I’ (at last). Rome I Regulation covers the law applicable to contractual obligations, and in particular which law applies if a dispute arises over a contract made between people or businesses from different countries in the EU.

Justis have launched a weekly legal news roundup on the Justis and JustCite sites. “Complementing our own stories, the free service provides summaries and links to a range of legal news from around the world, covering the full spectrum from quirky light relief to serious journalism.” Hmm, sounds more promising than it actually is really. Not sure I’d have bothered.

Just got facebook message from the guy behind preCydent. First saw this a few weeks back, a US based legal search tool. Has some promise, and love the youtube demo, esp about 4 mins in when he slates Westlaw and Lexis for relevance. Class.

Lord Falconer wants news stories written about cases before they go to trial removed from archives, to prevent them influencing the outcome of the case.
Not quite sure that I can see it working…and how do you stop news sites hosted outside the country from writing what they want? As it is, when you want to find out who’s been up to what naughtiness, and the courts have banned the info here, you just go looking on international sites...
