Dave Weinberger says “Google is almost done scanning books at Harvard. Of the 15 million books in the Harvard collections, Google is only scanning one million because it’s excluded any protected by copyright or that are too fragile, too big, or too small to be scanned.”
Guess that means Google can only be relied upon for 1/15th of a library’s knowledge base? hmmm. ;)

Just launched a new portal for BC Legislation.
The site is auto-publishing RSS updates coming from my client’s paid service (the update notices are free though…). Rather than offering an RSS feed that goes away, this site will document the updates, and eventually produce a historic & searchable collection of legislative changes for the province.

Bonnie Shucha makes a good point on document ownership. Lots of free document sharing tools & case law access points online these days. Librarians can’t forget, or let patrons forget, that authority still counts. Someone has to take ownership.
Disclosure: I am working on the JD Supra project, a soon to be launched competitor to docstoc. … The concept, of course, is good for anyone who’s publishing documents that people must rely upon.
