The Guardian have taken a step forward in their online information service, and are now providing the full-text of their articles through their RSS feeds, rather than an irritating excerpt. They are (apparently) the first major newspaper to do this. I’m never keen on RSS feeds that don’t give me the full text, so I’m very pleased to hear this!

Restricting the definition of ‘document’ might, in fact, decrease the number of documents that are accessible? Colour me shocked! Or, you know, not. The European Ombudsman considers the new proposals for revising access to EU documents a step backwards for transparency”.

For those who might need to know – there have been no new COM or SEC docs added to Eur-Lex since the 30th of April – apparently there is a technical fault with their system and they are currently unable to upload documents. This probably means that they haven’t been added to any of the subscription databases either, so if you need to find these, you may have to look a bit further afield.

US gov’t sells exclusive access to its legislative history to Thomson West? Whilst this wouldn’t surprise me, it’s a really, really bad idea if it’s true… Freedom of information, anyone?

Yahoo is going to start adopting semantic web standards in their search. This could be interesting. I’ve been waiting for some higher profile interest in semantic web stuff – will this be the ‘killer app’ for the semantic web?

New research that shows that we receive an opioid hit from our brains when we look at new information, hence the irrisistable-ness of the internet. Pretty interesting, I think – looking at new things on the internet is a pretty compelling urge. And we do it all day for a living! Does that make us uber-information junkies?

Tiny bit of self-promotion here, but if anyone would like to comment on the direction they would like to see the BIALL website take, please do head over and fill out our survey if you haven’t yet done so. We appreciate all the suggestions we can get!

Penguin to offer DRM free audiobooks – pretty exciting stuff. Thank goodness some publishers are starting to realise that DRM just doesn’t work

Man fined £11,000 for downloading Friends on mobile when crossing countries – unsurprisingly, it’s going to be disputed as an unfair charge. The rules for international mobile data transfer really do need to be worked out…

Somewhat related to James’ post yesterday – anyone know of any good research/reports on the uptake or use of web 2.0 technologies in law firms/professional services firms?

5th transoceanic communications cable cut, cutting off most data traffic to/from the UAE, and this isn’t making the real press why? Weird…

You lot certainly have been busy today! I’ve finally got this sorted out, and will join in the conversation with an actual post soon
