American Bar Association’s 2008 Legal Technology Survey Report is due out in May. I’m wishing at least the trend reports from 2007 were available for free.

This? is awesome. Botanist sues to stop CERN hurling Earth into parallel universe. I’m sure if it does create a black hole, he’ll be the first to sue for compensation too.

A third of Brits don’t know Shakespeare wrote plays - and many of them think he was King of England. A new survey also reveals 25% didn’t realise John Keats was a poet, with some saying his famous Odes were written by Robbie Williams. Others believed poet Sylvia Plath was lead singer of the Black Eyed Peas. Less than a third knew Winnie the Pooh author A A Milne was a writer … Make’s one proud to be British.

Heathrow Airport has very quietly temporarily dropped their plans to fingerprint every passenger travelling through the new Terminal 5 at the airport, as it’s dubious if they have the authority to compel passengers to give the data.
Had a (very) quick scout about the BAA / Heathrow site to try and find the statement referred to, but can’t see it anywhere obvious?

CULIB’s latest issue has a short article on “Web 2.0” communication amongst library and information students which I contributed to. I’ve been playing a small game of ‘guess which quotes can be attributed to me’ while reading it. Heh. Further thoughts to come in an actual blog post over at Librarian of Prey shortly.

Dave Weinberger says “Google is almost done scanning books at Harvard. Of the 15 million books in the Harvard collections, Google is only scanning one million because it’s excluded any protected by copyright or that are too fragile, too big, or too small to be scanned.”
Guess that means Google can only be relied upon for 1/15th of a library’s knowledge base? hmmm. ;)
